Shavuot

Shavuot is a Hebrew word meaning “weeks” and refers to the festival marking the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. Shavuot comes exactly 7 weeks after Passover and as the name symbolizes, it is the completion of a seven-week journey that led from a life of oppression to the giving of the Torah. It is customary to eat dairy foods and decorate our homes with flowers and greens. In synagogue we read the Book of Ruth. Yizkor is again recited on the last day.
