Chanukkah

Chanukah celebrates the rededication of the Temple and commemorates a battle for religious freedom. The most significant rite of Chanukah is lighting the menorah. Two blessings are recited each night with the Sheheheanu recited only on the first night.

BARUCH ATAH ADONAI ELOHENU MELECH HA’OLAM ASHER KIDESHANU BEMITZVOTAV VETZIVANU LEHADLIK NER SHEL CHANUKAH (blessed are You, O Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us through your mitzvoth and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah lights).

BARUCH ATAH ADONAI ELOHENU MELECH HA’OLAM SHE’ASAH NISIM LAAVOTENU BAYAMIM HAHEM BAZEMAN HAZEH (blessed are You, O Lord our God, Ruler of the universe who did wondrous things for our ancestors in former times at this season)

First night only: BARUCH ATAH ADONAI ELOHENU MELECH HA’OLAM SHEHECHEYANU VEKIYEMANU VEHIGIYANU LAZEMAN HAZEH (blessed are You, O Lord our God, Ruler of the universe who has kept us in life, sustained us, and brought us to this occasion.

On the first night you light one candle at the FAR RIGHT of the menorah. On each subsequent night an additional candle is set to the left of the candle(s) previously lit. BUT, you light the candles from LEFT TO RIGHT – lighting the newest first and working your way back. Visit our web site for colorful platters and serving pieces – which may be personalized at no additional charge.
